Menorca, Isla bonita

I heard so much about Spain, about its kind and warm people, about its beautiful island, crystal clear sea and white sand beaches. And I wasn’t disappointed! Everything is how I heard and saw in post cards. Extremely beautiful!

I also heard a lot about its delicious food but unfortunately for me, I can’t agree with that. Maybe it’s just that particular island, or maybe I stepped into the wrong restaurants or maybe it’s just me, but I was sure about a thing: I was hungry and didn’t liked at all what I was eating. Being on an island I assumed that they are the Gods of sea food! The unknown master chefs of delicious plates that only the visitors have the lucky to taste! I was wrong. I’m a person who has always tried to eat clean, that means not too salty, if possible without salt at all, not too much condiment, not too much oil, if possible without oil at all…well in Menorca I found exactly the contrary. A lot of salt, a lot of oil and a lot of condiment. Don’t get me wrong. I like to use these ingredients when I cook but if they completely cover the taste of a vegetable or the taste of the fish, then I don’t like it. Ingredients should be used to give value to a dish, to accentuate a flavor, not to change its aroma!

Well, the entire week was hard for me because of the bad food, ( or maybe because my expectations were too high, I thought that on every island I will find what I found in Mykonos ) I’d also lost weight, and I had some uncomfortable moments in restaurants, but I didn’t want to let this ruin my vacation. After all I was in a piece of heaven on earth! Seeing all that beauty in front of me, being in the middle of it was pure blessing. I would go back without thinking twice. Even though a week may seem enough to explore the island…surprise! It’s not enough! From all the beaches I get to go to, Cala Macarelleta and Cala Mitjana were my favorite! It’s not only about the water and the sand, it’s about the feeling I had while I was swimming, the inner peace that those places gave me.
I stayed at a hotel called “Casas del Lago” in Cala d’en Bosch. A very beautiful hotel, but so beautiful that I almost felt sorry to leave it to go to the beach. It’s like a little village where you can find everything you want without having to leave that place. But I wasn’t there to stay on the swing and watch the palms all day long. I was there to explore, right?
Another amazing city that I felt sorry I discover it in the last day, is Cala en Porter! I can’t describe it’s beauty! Little white houses, a lot of flowers, palms and vegetation. I was there to go to Cava d’en Xoroi. An amazing disco/bar inside of a cave! Let me tell you: the sunset there is unforgettable!
Ciutadella is a lovely city to visit and to do some shopping or to buy souvenirs for the loved ones at home! I really like the two straw bags I got there.
What else can I say…it’s an amazing destination for a vacation in group or for a couple. A lot of gorgeous beaches, beautiful views, delicious sangria, warm people, amazing locations to take pictures if you’re a blogger and a lot of other things that you, my dear reader, will discover by yourself if you will have the pleasure to visit Menorca.
